Reflections, Memories and New Beginnings

First I want to give a big welcome to a friend that has just joined the blogging world - welcome to my good friend Sheri.

Secondly I want to talk about our church service today.

Today is the last day of church in our old sanctuary. We have been in the process of building a new church that sits adjacent to our old sanctuary and it is now completed. If you would like to visit our website and see the building pictures, here in the link, it is Church of the Nations.

Today was our last service in the old sanctuary, which, as of next week, will become our new youth meeting area. Anyway, today was both exciting and reflective as we had some former worship leaders lead us in song and also many people from the congregation share how the Lord had ministered to them over the years in and through our church. It was very neat to hear all the testimonies.

We have been talking a lot about this next year being a year of new beginnings. The number eight in the Bible is the number that represents new beginnings. We feel it is significant that we are starting a new beginning in a new building in the year 2008.

I was overwhelmed by the Lord's presence during our worship time today. We sang many songs, some newer and many older but one that touched me today in a special way is the song "Shout to the Lord" that Darlene Zschech sings. I was singing the song and worshipping and I just was thinking about the words:

"Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing,
Power and majesty, praise to the King,
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
at the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of His hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand,
Nothing compares to the promise
I have in You."

I was struck by all of the things that my husband and I have experienced over the years. We were in ministry for many years and there were many joyful and glorious times and yet many hurtful and hard times that we went through. I remembered when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and I was pregnant with our first child. I was very afraid. I remembered us having to live with his parents at one point, because we didn't have a job. I remembered when our son was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and the horror of knowing that we would have to fight the disease everyday. All those memories came rushing into my mind and I was struck by the words, "nothing compares to the promise I have in You." Lord, nothing compares, nothing difficult, nothing joyful, nothing at all compares to what You have done and are going to continue to do on this earth and in my life and the lives of my family.

I was reminded of the verse in Romans 8 that says, "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I am excited for all the Lord has for us in the new year of 2008. But, it is as several people said today during the testimony time; we have to make a commitment to Him. He is ready to act on our behalf and bless us, but He is waiting for each of us to run into His open arms.

Are you ready for new beginnings in your life? It starts with Jesus and knowing that He is the only way to real life, real peace and real happiness. I pray your life in 2008 would be full of all good things from His hand.

Christmas Pics and Musings

I wanted to post some pictures of our Christmas season. It has been such a wonderful holiday for all of us and I am so grateful for safe travels and family and friends that make our lives so full.

The first picture is from Shreveport, Louisiana where we spent Christmas. This was probably one of the highlights for us. This is a handmade pizza oven made by our cousins. They lived in Italy many years ago and decided they wanted to bring a little of Italy to their back yard. They spent this past summer renovating their backyard area and adding this authentic pizza oven. So, they hosted a pizza party for all of the family. The pizza was fabulous, better than any we have ever tasted and the experience was so fun.

The rest of the pictures are snippets of some of our holiday gatherings. A couple of pictures of our ESL class at our house for our Christmas party and a couple of pictures from the ornament exchange we had in early December.

ENJOY!!

Friday Fact - Where Did You Spend Christmas?

Did you know that you could've spent your Christmas in these very "Christmasy" sounding places: Christmas, Florida; Santa Claus, Indiana; Noel, Missouri and Rudolph, Wisconsin?

I didn't spend my Christmas in one of these places. We went to Shreveport, Louisiana to spend Christmas with my hubby's family. This is a tradition that we have been observing for many years; since our children were small.

We usually get there a couple of days before Christmas, just in case we have any last minute shopping to do. Then on Christmas Eve, the FUN begins. We go to our Uncle Tom and Aunt Bea's house for a big dinner - big referring to the number of people that come. We usually have no less than 20 people and I have been there before when we had close to 50 people in attendance. This year we had around 25. It's mostly family but maybe a close friend or two, as well. They always invite a couple that have been friends of the family for years, and they add alot of fun to our celebration. The wife can play the piano like nobody's business. She is incredible and it's all by ear. You start singing, in any key, and she'll pick it up within seconds. So, anyway, after all the delicious food (usually beef tenderloin, yummy potatoes, salad, delicious green beans - compliments of my mother-in-law - and delectable rolls), we visit for a bit and then start the SHOW. It usually consists of us all gathering around the piano and singing a mix of traditional carols and then some fun stuff like The Twelve Days of Christmas (acted out by all of us) and other fun songs. It's very interactive and everyone gets involved, which makes it so enjoyable. This time we sang the Twelve Days of Christmas - Redneck version. We had "Three Coon Dogs" instead of "Three French Hens" but we had our aunt, my mother-in-law and another lady singing that part and they kept saying "three corn dogs". We laughed 'til we cried. Anyway, it was so much fun.

Then on Christmas morning we got up and opened our presents with Mee Mee (our name for my mother-in-law). We shared Christmas as a family and opened stockings with each other and Mee Mee. Then got ready and went back to Aunt Bea's house for Christmas brunch. This is also part of our tradition. Again, the food is delicious and the fellowship is sweet. It is usually just family, at this point, and there's lots of time to catch up with everyone's lives.

Then on Christmas night we go to my hubby's brother's house and share dinner and gifts with them. This meal is also a tradition and his wife prepares: Crawfish gumbo (remember, this is Louisiana) Taco Soup - for us "weirdos" who don't do crawfish - and salad and corn muffins. All topped off with Peppermint Parfaits and/or Bananas Foster.

All in all, Christmas in Shreveport is something we would not want to miss. It is definitely a highlight of our year. I hope to post pictures next week of some of the fun new things we experienced while there, this year.

I thank the Lord for family and the blessings that family brings to make each of our lives richer.

Blessed be the tie that binds!!

Friday Fact - Christmas Around the World

Do you know how other countries celebrate Christmas?

Here is a very brief listing of the "gift givers" from other cultures:

Saint Nicholas Day is celebrated on December 6th in Eastern Europe. Children put a boot by the window on December 5th and it is filled with treats by Saint Nicholas.

In China, "Dun Che Lao Ren," or Christmas Old Man, brings gifts to children.

The Dutch "Sintirklass" arrives by boat on December 6th. Children leave a wooden shoe filled with hay and carrots for the donkey which carries St. Nicholas' pack of toys.

In Italy "La Befana" is a good witch who dresses all in black. Children leave their shoes by the fireplace on the eve of January 6th. Befana comes down the chimney on her broomstick to leave gifts.

In Germany families go to church on Christmas Eve. While they are at church the "Christkind" or Christ Child brings presents to their homes.

In Spanish-speaking countries, such as Spain, Mexico, South America, children wait until January 6th for their presents. The Three Kings or Wise Men bring the gifts. Children put shoes by the front door to get their gifts. There is usually a big procession through the streets with floats for each of the Wise men.

In Sweden a gnome called "Juletomten" brings gifts in a sleigh driven by goats.

In Switzerland the "Christkindl" or Christ Child brings the gifts. In some towns, Christkindl is an angel who comes down from heaven to give gifts.

In England Father Christmas is a stern version of Santa Claus who brings gifts on Christmas Eve.

In France "Pere Noel" brings gifts to children on Christmas Eve. Children leave their shoes by the fireplace.

Of course, in the U.S. Santa Claus is a name that brings joy to millions of children every year.

I pray that each of you would experience the real gift-giver this year. The reason we really celebrate Christmas and the only one who can give joy that lasts. His name is Jesus, he was born in a stable thousands of years ago to a young virgin. He grew up without sin and was crucified on a cross for the sins of this world. We've all heard the story but have you experienced the reality in your own life? Unlike the other "gift-givers", Jesus is real, history proves what He did and His gift of eternal life to each of us is free.

Merry Christmas!

ESL Christmas Party

Well, last night we had our 2nd annual ESL (English as a Second Language)Christmas party. We hosted it at our home this year because all of the students wanted to see our new house. We had such a great time. I would post some pics but my teaching assistant (Autumn) did all the picture-taking and she is off to Tennessee today, so I am without any photos.

It is fun to share Christmas with other cultures and to share different types of food, as well. After we ate and visited a bit, we sang a couple of traditional Christmas carols with them that we taught them this last month. We taught them Silent Night and Joy to the World and shared the meaning of each song. Then, we shared the Christmas story with them based on a Nativity Scene (posted photo) that I have set up in my living room. We told them how Jesus was born in a manger in a stable and asked them questions like, "where are kings usually born?". We mentioned the star that God placed in the sky to guide them on their way. They were particularly interested in the three wise men bringing gifts to the new King.

One Chinese lady, named MiMi, had never heard the story until she moved from China to the United States a few years ago. I was amazed (yet not surprised) that she had never heard the story before.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to share with these precious people. I pray God would use Autumn and me to continue to plant small seeds that will one day produce fruit for His Kingdom.

What is Our World Coming To?

Did you hear this story? - (it is true, and verified) -

A Florida man traded a surface-to-air missile launcher for Reeboks.

The Orlando, Fla., police held a "Kicks for Guns" sneaker exchange Friday, but they weren't expecting to get a surface-to-air missile launcher.

An Ocoee, Fla., man showed up and exchanged the 4-foot-long launcher for size-3 Reebok sneakers for his daughter.

The man took advantage of the exchange's no-questions-asked policy, and was not identified.

Unbelievably, the mystery man said he discovered the launcher in a shed he was tearing down and tried to take it to three dumps to get rid of it, and they all turned him away.

In addition to the missile launcher, police collected more than 250 guns. They were all exchanged for sneakers or $50 gift certificates.

Merry Christmas and a happy BOOM, BOOM to you!!

Friday Fact - Cheap and Edible Christmas Decorations!

Did you know that Animal Crackers are not really crackers at all but are cookies that were imported to the United States from England in the late 1800's? What is interesting is that the boxes were designed with a string handle so they could be hung on the Christmas Tree. One box of crackers cost 5 cents.

You know you're homeschooled if....

Most of you know that we homeschool and have since our oldest daughter (now 21) was in fourth grade. We started when we moved to Georgia and our two younger children have never known anything but homeschooling. This is our 12th year of homeschooling.

Anyway, homeschooling is a culture within itself and has it's own language and with that we get lots of questions; not as much anymore, now that our kids are growing up. But, with that in mind, here is a list of the more familiar and humorous questions and comments we've experienced.

You know you're homeschooled if:

1. the children have been asked why they don't go to a "real" school. (no, our school is not real - it's make believe.)
2. You can go to school in your pajamas, also teacher can show up in her P.J.'s (yeah!!)
3. People ask how do you "socialize", do you have friends, do you know other people? (no, we're actually trying to raise a bunch of deranged sociopaths to send out into the world.)
4. People ask what time we get up in the morning (well, we get up around noon, eat and then go back to bed and sleep the rest of the day.)
5. People ask why you're not in school, especially if the children happen to be grocery shopping with mom during "normal school hours". (well, isn't going to the grocery store a great place to learn math skills?)
6. People assume that the children get all "A's" because the parents are so lenient (yeah, right!!)
7. Mom gets asked frequently if she is "educated" enough to teach her children at home. (no, I'm really a kindergarten drop-out - but don't tell anyone, I might get reported to the uh... who?)
8. Is homeschooling legal? (no, we're doing it all incognito, don't follow any rules and live out in the country so no one can find us.)

Benefits of homeschooling from Mom's perspective:

1. The teacher gets to kiss the principal in the faculty lounge and no one gossips.
2. You take off for a teacher in-service day because the principal needs clean underwear.
3. If you get caught talking to yourself, you can claim you're having a PTA meeting.
4. If your child gets drugs at school, it's probably Tylenol.
5. We can take vacations when everyone else is in school.
6. All humor aside, I absolutely love my children and love having them around!!

Happy Monday

Good morning and good Monday to everyone. I cannot believe it is nearly Christmas and I have not finished shopping yet!! We have been doing alot of "partying" lately, (the good kind - hee). Saturday had a dress rehearsal for the drama/choir presentation at church. Saturday evening a Care Ministry party at church. Sunday the production and Sunday afternoon went to the Athens Symphony Christmas production at the Classic Center. It was fabulous, as usual, and really puts you in the Christmas spirit. They did two selections from Handel's Messiah, my favorite being the "Hallelujah Chorus". Wow, what music!! and with a 102 voice choir, all I can say is I had goosebumps. Then after that went to some friends for ice cream and coffee. Tonight my daughters and I are hosting our fourth (or is it fifth?) annual ornament exchange here at our house. We have friends over, (it started out with mothers and daughters and has evolved into a bit more than that) and snack (wassail , again - unspiked), fellowship and then do the exchange. The exchange itself, is like a White Elephant exchange, where you unwrap your gift and then the next person can take yours or get another. It ends up being alot of fun. Of course, the last person is in the best position, because they get to pick from everything. Lots to do today to prepare, lots of baking, but we love this particular event. Have a wonderful beginning to your week -

Friday Fact - Christmas Wassail

Did you know that the word "Wassail" comes from the Old Norse "vas heill" - to be of good health? This later evolved into the tradition of visiting neighbors on Christmas Eve and drinking to their health.

Speaking of Wassail, I had a couple of good friends over for lunch today. We have been friends for a long time and always get together for birthdays, etc... We just recently started getting together for Christmas. We had wassail, of course, one of my favorite Christmas beverages. (I also love Egg Nog). Anyway, I am posting a picture of us in front of our Christmas Tree. Left to right - me, Sheri and Kathy. I thank the Lord for good friendships!!

Painting Lessons

If you know me at all, you know that I am very frugal with money. Some might term it "tight". But I don't mind. I do enjoy coupons and saving a buck or two when I can. So, when it came to finishing our bonus room, I told my husband we could save some money by us painting it ourselves. HA!! What a joke!!

Today is the second day of "priming" the sheet rock. Why do they call it "primer" anyway? Prime means "elite, heyday, perfection, all things lovely". Well, applying the primer was anything but those things. Yesterday, the smell in our house was so bad that I thought I was going to get sick. And while we were actually up there (room's on the second floor) my daughter and I felt as if we were becoming a bit "wacky" from inhaling the fumes. As someone said last night at church, we probably killed some brain cells yesterday, for which I am worried - I don't have that many to lose!! Anyway, today, we had to finish the "priming" because we were so sick of the smell yesterday, we up and left it. So had to return to the scene and complete the job. Now my hands look like a nail job gone bad and I have the familiar little white "freckles" all over my skin again. Tomorrow, I guess we'll start the actual painting. Hopefully, it is water based and will wash off easily, the primer was not. Alas, the money I spent in paintbrushes, that would not wash out, was probably enough to pay a painter. Anyway, I am hoping and praying the painting won't be as difficult.

All in all, I must say I do have a new found respect for painters.

Friday Fact ~ Merry X-MAS

First, let's talk about the word 'X-mas.' I have to admit that in the past I just didn't like the saying "Merry X-mas" because I thought people were trying to avoid saying Christmas, and thus avoid the connection that Christ has to Christmas. Well, I was mistaken and have learned what the significance of the "X" is in "X-mas".

We have a Christmas tree in the back of our sanctuary at church that is full of Chrismons. The word "Chrismon" is a derivative of two words (ChHRISt+MONOgram). By the way, the Chrismons at our church, like many others, are handmade because according to all I've read, they cannot be made for profit, hence you won't find them in your neighborhood store that sells Christmas decorations.

Technically, if the ornaments on a Christmas tree are comprised mostly of Christian symbols, the tree is known as a "Chrismon Tree." Most Chrismons are white with gold decorations of beads, ribbon, glitter, etc.

Chrismons are symbols that stand for Christ. The symbol reminds us of some aspect of Christ's life. The symbol points us, our minds toward Christ. There are many, many Chrismons and I have posted one here for you that is explained. But you can do some research on your own and find all the different symbols. It is very fascinating.

If you look carefully on the tree you will see some Chrismons that are "X's" or a combination of an "X" and what looks like a "p." Those are not English letters, but Greek letters. The letter that looks like the letter "p" in our alphabet is really the Greek letter "Rho" which is equal to our letter "R." The "X" is the Greek letter "Chi" and is equal to a "CH" in English letters. The "Chi," the Greek letter that looks like our "X" is a symbol of Christ. It is the first two letters of the word "Christ." When combined with the "Rho," the Greek letter that looks like our letter "p," the symbol then stands for the first THREE letters, "Chr" of the word Christ.

So, when people, like me, go on and on about 'X-mas' leaving out Christ, they don't know what they're talking about. So, now that YOU know, you can enlighten them.

More Christmas Thoughts

We expect too much of Christmas Day. We try to crowd into it the long list of lost opportunities for kindliness, forgiveness, and compassion of the whole year. (David Grayson)

Christmas Thoughts

Ben Franklin said,

"How many observe Christ's birthday, how few His teachings. O, 'tis easier to keep holidays than commandments."

Sad Today - But Hopeful

Got an email today from a friend's husband, that she passed away last evening. She has been battling cancer for a while now. I was so sad and surprised. I had just received an email update from her about a week and a half ago and she was so upbeat. We were really good friends with them when we lived in Arkansas and she was a phenomenal person. She always made me laugh and she and I had children that were close in age. She had such a great attitude and always closed her emails with words like, "still smiling", "enjoying God's incredible grace". I know she is in heaven sitting at the feet of Jesus and I know she is adding much laughter and joy to the throngs of heaven.

Thank God for sending Jesus to us and for taking away the sting of death. There are so many scriptures that refer to this and the scripture that is so neat to me is from Psalm 116:15, "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."

God created us for His glory and for fellowship. This earth is only a temporary stopping place for us. What an incredible thought; life does not end here, but this is just the beginning. We have eternity to look forward to. I don't know about you, but I don't know of any other being that has ever offered anything like that to humankind. Thank you, Jesus, that your death gives us life!!

Getting Ready

I love this season, the time from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I love all that it entails; the colder weather, the hope of a bit of snow?? (sorry, but I'm originally from the north), baking, Christmas decorations, apple cider, presents under the tree, fun times with family and friends, and of course, all the preparations that happen at church. We have several things going on at our church at this time of year. We have several parties to attend and one to give and also two programs to share. The first will be on December 9th and is called "The Planet with the People". It is a drama and musical and has a wonderful message of Jesus coming in human form to that planet with the people. My husband, son and I have minor parts, but just being a part is so much fun. Also, I am singing in the choir for that same program. Singing is one of my favorite things to do, and I feel so blessed to be able to join in with the others. The practices and camaraderie that go with that are such a special part of the season for me. On December 16th, our children will be sharing their program. It is called "Christmas Where, When and Why". I am blessed to be helping with the music for this production. So, there's alot of preparation going on and I love being a part. It makes Christmas all the more special for me.

Turkey Day

We had a great Thanksgiving Day. We invited some friends over and had 11 total. Then had some other friends come later and we played games. All in all, it was such a fun time. We played several very fun group games including Pit, Balderdash and Catch Phrase. I laughed so hard, I was crying. I am thankful for good food and good fellowship; of which we enjoyed both bountifully yesterday.

The Cultural Confrontation

I have been confronted of late by the humility and simplicity that is evident in other cultures. This past week I had two opportunities to hear and take part in the testimonies of two different humble pastors and their messages. One from an Asian country, the other from Central America. I was struck by their humility, simplicity and yet the fervor of their message regarding God's Kingdom and their love for people. It's like one of our church members said after hearing one brother share, "I want that heart for myself." I, too, cry out for a different way of seeing things. Our American eyes have become enmeshed in materialism and self-sufficiency. I am not saying I do not love America. For I do with all my heart and thank God that I live in a free land where I can serve Him. But I believe that what these two men model is because they have been through trials; character producing trials, like having their life almost taken or not knowing where their next meal is coming from, or seeing a loved one die because there was no way to get them to medical help; these kinds of trials have made them into who they are. I don't know... I am just sharing my heart with you. I am sharing my heart with God and crying out for understanding and for a tender, more compassionate heart toward those around me and a zeal, a burning in my soul to share His love with others. In other countries, our brothers and sisters in Christ are dying because they are sharing His love and yet we are afraid of the rejection we might face from our neighbor if we mention His name. Something is very wrong.

I remember when I lived overseas and saw people come night after night to a big open tent with sawdust on the floors and wooden benches with no arms on them. People came in the rain and 40 degree weather, night after night. People walked for miles to hear a preacher preach God's Word and they came with a faith that healed their children of diseases and delivered them from demonic spirits. I saw it with my own eyes. And yet, I am not seeing it now. I am reminded again of this faith, this faith that knows it has nothing but Jesus to run to, nothing but Him to rely on. I want that heart, that kind of faith. Can it happen for me, can it happen for America?

Our country is becoming alot like some other places where religion is just something to do. Our nation is going from being a Christian nation to becoming a secular nation. I believe it grieves God's heart. He gave us the freedom we enjoy, not to squander on ourselves and live like the devil, but to share freely His love and to share freely with our brothers. We have been unfaithful to Him. God help us. Break our hearts with the things that break Your heart. Teach us Your ways, Oh Lord. Start with me.

Pumpkin Pancakes

My children and I went to IHOP on Friday morning for breakfast. It was a treat and not something we do very often. But, my daughter had told me that their pumpkin pancakes were really good so I tried them. They were absolutely YUM!! If you like pumpkin, you gotta try them. I love anything pumpkin and I love this time of year when pumpkin is in everything. If you want to try them you better go soon, because it's a seasonal item and won't be offered for long. Hats off to IHOP for such a yummy and different version of the pancake.

Friday Fact

I think I'm going to start posting a Friday Fact each Friday; it would be an interesting but little known fact. Kind of fun (can you tell I'm bored?) No, actually I have housework to do and I'm kind of avoiding it - ha!!

Anyway, I like trivia - so, maybe we can impart some knowledge here; however impractical it might be. If nothing else, you can impress your friends!!

We'll start this week with some sports trivia, since everyone in our town or neighboring towns is a University of Georgia fan and sports is a pretty big deal in this area.

Okay, so here goes our first Friday Fact:

Did you know that the football "huddle" was invented by students at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C., a leading school for the deaf? Players, worried about opposing teams seeing their hand signals through sign language, huddled up so that no one could see their plays.

So, now, don't you feel just a little bit smarter??

What does a duck-hunter look like?

In honor of this Saturday's official opening day, I am posting some pictures of my hubby and his brother on a typical duck-hunt. These were taken last year at a wildlife refuge in Arkansas. This is where they hunt every year. The dog is not ours, but a friends. Our dog Molly is a yellow lab and, in my humble opinion, the best retriever you will ever see. Enjoy!!

This is a picture of our Molly. Don't you think this would make a great commercial for Edy's Ice Cream??

Super Sunday

Yesterday was a great day!! Sundays are always great but yesterday was especially good. Sunday School was awesome, we had a visitor there that had found our church through the website. That, in itself, is very cool. Also our discussion on "giving thanks" from Ephesians 5 was so timely. We had no idea that Pastor was going to preach that same sermon in church.
Worship for the main service was phenomenal. Totally in awe of God's presence in that place, God was truly moving on hearts and it was so neat to see people respond to His call to come closer to Him. God really loves His people and delights in us and desires for us to realize just how much He does love us.
After church we ate a quick lunch with friends and then back to the church for choir practice. We are preparing for the Christmas program. We got a lot accomplished and now just have to focus in on learning the words and getting real specific with timing, phrasing and dynamics. Pastor Ian does a great job teaching us and I feel blessed to be a part.
Then it was on to drama practice. My husband and I are playing the part of one set of the Three Kings group. The scene we are in is comical, and I don't want to give it away, but we had a lot of fun with this and the other people we are working with are great!!
All in all, a great day!! And I am reminded of what we were exhorted with yesterday. Mainly, to give thanks in all things. I forget this important principle so much in my personal life. God wants to bless us, but our ungratefulness robs us of that blessing. Ephesians 5:20 "always giving thanks to God the Father, for everything".

QUACK!!

It's that time of year at the Crawford house. Time to pull out the thermal underwear and make sure all the hunting garb is ready to go. Hubby is an avid, (no I should spell it in all caps), AVID duck hunter and has hunted faithfully since he was 10 years old.

It's like this series of symptoms begins to hit him in about mid-October. Those would include: watching duck-hunting videos, looking at the latest issue of Cabelas magazine, calling his brother for reports and outlooks (whom he doesn't talk to much the rest of the year, but now the telephone lines are blazing hot), and talking to and lining up who's going to go Opening Day (Opening Day, by the way is the Saturday before Thanksgiving).

It's kind of like a holiday for us. We're just so accustomed to it, it's second nature. I'm glad he has an outlet and a form of re-creation, a way to get his mind off of the stresses of work and life and connect with God and nature. And, believe me, he definitely connects!! He has a group of guys that he goes to Arkansas with. They have even bought them a mobile home right near the reservoir where they hunt, they call it the "tin-do-minium". It's really kind of cute and serves it's purpose well.

I do believe duck-hunters are a definite sub-culture of their own. They have their own language and lifestyle. I use to go hunting with him; in fact all of the ladies in our family used to go on Opening Day. When the children started coming along, that sort of stopped. Although, our daughter absolutely loves to hunt, as well, and will probably also be an AVID hunter.

So, to all of you duck hunters or duck hunter widows out there, welcome to a new season. Best wishes for getting your limit!!

These Small Hours

"Making the most of our time, because the days are evil." (Eph. 5:16) Seems to be where the Lord has me these days.

Have you seen the movie "Meet the Robinsons" yet? Great family movie with a great message. One of the songs in the movie is sung by Rob Thomas, he has a great voice and it's a great message. Letting the little stuff go and making the most of "these small hours, these little wonders - time falls away, but these small hours still remain".

So Much to Do, So Little Time

Wow, where has the week gone? We have had so many things going on and time has flown by. Plus the fact that we had issues with our phone, internet and tv connections and finally had to switch providers. So, it's probably a good thing, since I haven't had time to sit and catch up with emails and blogging, etc...
Keep praying for Stef. His surgery went well and they think they removed about 90% of the tumor. But they also found a small tumor in his small intestine which they removed. Please pray that this cancer would be arrested and that he would recover quickly and be healed. He and his wife are doing well although he is still in a lot of pain.
I thought of the title of this entry, "so much to do, so little time" not just in relation to the happenings in my life but the bigger picture of life and eternity. We are not given much time here on earth, some more for others, some less. But regardless, all of us who call ourselves followers of Christ have a mandate to share the Good News. The Bible doesn't specifically tell us when Christ will return but we are to take every opportunity because the days are evil. Honestly, I haven't been doing real good lately in this department. I've gotten so caught up with the goings on in my own life, that I have neglected the people around me. It's called the "Tyranny of the Urgent". It means the urgent things (or the things we perceive as most important) get the most attention and so we allow them to take center stage. When in reality, the real important things, such as the spiritual condition of the souls around us, should be our prime focus. Peter said that the Lord is not willing for any to perish but all to come to repentance. Lord, help me see people through Your eyes. Help me see my brother, Lord, through Your eyes. Place in me a tender heart that breaks in little pieces when I look and see my precious brother through Your eyes.

A Brother in Need

Hey to all of you who follow my blog. I wanted to alert you to a very serious prayer need. I have been following the blog of a brother in Christ for the past 3 months. His name is Stef Tarapchak and he was diagnosed back in July with stage 4 colon cancer. He is a strong Christian and is 36 years old with a wife and 3 young children. He has been going through chemo treatments and will be having a very important surgery this coming Friday. Would you please join me in prayer for him that he and his wife would have the "peace that passes all understanding" especially for this surgery but for all of this journey that he is on right now? I believe we are to hold each other up and eventhough I have never met this man, I have felt a strong urge to pray and continue holding his arms up. I hope you will join with me. Thanks and God bless you.
NOTE: If you are reading this blog on Tuesday, October 23, I found it interesting that today's scripture is from Galatians 6:2 "carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ".

I'm feeling "SOUR" about the high price of milk

Have any of you been to the store lately and noticed the cost of a gallon of milk? Oh my goodness, I went to the grocery store near our new home and milk was $4.09 for a gallon. I don't remember what it was in our small town grocery store before we moved, but I don't remember it being over $4.00. Of course, I had free milk tokens at our other store, for every 6 gallons you bought, you got a gallon free and I had been saving up and got several free gallons. Terrible that milk prices are higher than gas prices, OUCH!!

New House

Here is a picture of our new house. I hope you can come visit us sometime!!

Moved In!!

Well, I haven't posted in a while cuz we moved on Saturday and I just got internet back up today. Finally got our phone plugged up and we are unpacking and making steady progress. So, how is it that people accumulate so much, anyway? I would not consider myself a "pack-rat" but we sure do have alot of stuff!!

Anyway, just wanted to update the blog and let you know that life is starting to return to "normal" (whatever that means!!)

Have a wonderful week!!

Food For Thought

I saw a poem earlier that really spoke to me. I'm not going to share it word for word but just the idea behind it:

If you and your family were taken out of this world for some reason and someone else had to sort through your belongings what would they find?

Would your home be a witness of the Lord or a dishonor to Him?
What about your CD, DVD and video collection, what is the content in them?
How about your books; would you feel comfortable letting Jesus read them?
Magazines - what types are in your home?
Your tax returns - did they reflect that you gave to the Lord and His church and trusted Him with your finances?

Bottom line - would your lifestyle and what you left behind draw people to our Lord?

If not, it's time to do some housecleaning!

Indian Summer and Cold Fronts

I am so ready for cooler weather!! I always remember my grandmother saying that we were having an Indian Summer if the weather was warm in the fall. So I guess that is what this is. I know up north they are hotter than we are right now. I think it is supposed to get cool this week, maybe it will be the last hot spell for the year.

Anyway, have you ever noticed that when the full moon comes, the weather turns cooler? My husband and I have been noticing this phenomenon for the past 15 or 20 years. We knew an older gentleman that brought it to our attention and it has proven true every month. Usually 3 days before or 3 days after (or any of that time period in between) the full moon, the weather will turn cooler or we will get a cold front. Watch and notice for yourself. I wonder what the scientific explanation is for this? Anyway, it's pretty cool - which is what I am ready for -

Lasts and Firsts

Well, it's official. We are moving this coming Saturday!! WOO HOO!! I am so ready. We did a little moving yesterday but the majority is happening next week because that's when we could line up the help and truck. So, it's okay cuz it gives me a week to try to bring some semblance of order to things around here. I know, there is really no order in a move but I can try, can't I?
So, it will be the last week at the DW. (DW is the endearing name we gave to our temporary home that we have lived in for the past 13 months - also known as a "double wide" - hence the abbreviation "DW") Today is the last Sunday we have to drive 50 min. to church. YEAH!! It will be a 15 min. ride at the other house. There are some things I will miss about living in the country, the main one being the quietness. But that's about it. Let me tell you what I will not miss:
1. Having to turn off the oven while using the microwave or vice-versa. Or not being able to use the stove and iron or hair dryer at the same time. Yep, always throws the breaker.
2. Not being able to run the waterhose for more than 5 min. cuz it throws the breaker to the well house which in turn causes no water for our house and the landlady's house.
3. Driving down a very bumpy and dusty road
4. Dark carpet that shows every piece of lint
Okay, for the sake of sounding ungrateful, I'll stop there.
I want to tell you that I am extremely grateful for this house. I know we, as a family, have made some great memories here and those are priceless. It really has been a blessing in alot of ways and God's timing in providing it was perfect but, I must admit that I am very thankful the Lord has provided something else.
I'll keep you posted on the move and may post a picture of the new place later.

I Love Lucy- Five dozen eggs

More Lucy Laughs!! This scene is one of the all time favorites and garnered the longest recorded audience laughter in television history. This scene starts with the Ricardos and Mertzes in the chicken business but the hens aren't laying eggs. So Lucy and Ethel decide to take matters into their own hands or should I say their own "clothes". At the same time, Ricky and Lucy have to dance the tango at Little Ricky's school PTA meeting. So Ricky wants to rehearse the dance one more time. Hold on for a hilarious ride!

Redemptive Love

I've been reading Hosea lately. (going through the Old Testament) Today I was reading chapter 3, I am truly amazed at this book and how God spoke to Hosea about marrying a harlot and how it is such a beautiful picture of God's redemptive love toward His people. Just as Gomer was an adulteress, so are we an adulteress in so many ways towards God. We are His bride, He has purchased us and wooed us by the blood of His Son and yet we still turn to other "lovers" on a daily basis. God told Hosea to tell his wife that she would not need another and must not seek another's love. And He longingly desires the same for each of us. He has provided the greatest and most satisfying love and yet we continue to try to replace Him with anything and everything but Him!! And yet His mercy continues towards us and His people. Verse 5 says that after the children of Israel return to God and seek His face that they shall then fear Him and His goodness. I am always awed at this incredible picture of lovingkindness. Thank you Lord for your mercies truly are "new every morning". Great is Your Faithfulness!!

Cryptic Message?

Read this post if you need help in deciphering the following message.

Well, there sure was alot of jack-leggedness going on in Philly last night. Larry probably made the worst mistake of all. It was awful. It was hammered up from beginning to end. Okay, I will finally admit, the coffin is sealed.

What am I talking about anyway?

Are You Who You Want To Be?

Powerful and thought provoking words from a Switchfoot song:

"Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you’ve broken
Don’t close your eyes, don’t close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you’ve got now
Yeah, and today is all you’ll ever have
Don’t close your eyes, Don’t close your eyes
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be,
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose"

I had a bit of a scare last week. Suffice it to say that I had to go back for a second mammogram visit this week. They said something didn't look right. That was last Monday. So, it's been a pretty crazy week for me emotionally. Thankfully, the re-check was fine and there is no sign of abnormalities. But, I'll tell you that I did alot of soul searching and questioning this week. Not questioning God, but myself. This song pretty much sums up some of what I was feeling. Today is all we have, we aren't guaranteed tomorrow. Am I really who I want to be? No, sadly, I am not. I pray that the Lord will continue to mold me into the person I need to be for His kingdom.

a BIG "IF"

So, I know I'm still beating a dead horse but:

What IF the Mets keep on losing (lost 6 of their last 7) and what IF the Braves keep winning (won 6 of their last 7) and what IF the Braves can beat the Phillies next week?

So, what happens then? Do you think the Braves have a chance??

All I can say is "GO BRAVES"!!

FALL IS FINALLY HERE!!

I love this weather, this is my favorite weather in the world. I love the coolness in the morning and evening. I love the way the shadows fall on the ground. I just love it!! Lord, your mercies are new every morning, Great is your Faithfulness!!

Front Row, Back Row or Somewhere In Between?

I had to sit on the back row today in church. It was a really different experience for me. No, I didn't have incontinence or anything like that but had to help my daughter with Children's Church so decided to sit near the back where I could exit easily when the children were dismissed.

I now know why I don't like sitting in the back. Here are my observations:

1. Too much going on - can't worship the Lord. There was so much going on in the back of the church that I could not stay focused on the worship service. I love to sing and it was hard to concentrate on that; which, in turn, made it difficult for me to really focus on the Lord.
2. Lots of noises back there - snoring, people talking, lots of coming and going and just general hub bub.
3. Because of my lack of concentration, it was much more tempting to become a spectator back there instead of a participant.

So, I got to thinking. You know, there are times in life when we don't have a choice about where we can sit. For example, if you buy a ticket for a charter bus or a train or plane you are given an assigned seat. Also, usually concerts and sports venues have pre-assigned seats.

Then there are other activities where one can choose where they want to sit; such as a movie theater and on a subway or city bus.

So, why do we sit where we sit in church? We tend to be creatures of habit and usually sit in the same location or close to it week in and week out. It made me really grateful that I can choose to sit where I desire to sit in church and I really love sitting in the front. I love being close to the front because although there is alot going on in the back, the good stuff is up front. My husband said last week at church there was an incredible anointing at the altar area and he said it was so thick you could actually feel it.

That's where I want to be -- right in the big middle of what God is doing!! Why don't you try it sometime?

I Still Believe

Well, I just want to say that I still believe the Braves can make it to the postseason. I know, I know, everything is really against them but I am going to believe until it's utterly impossible and I have to give up. They sure have pulled out a couple of incredible wins in the last week. Even with Chipper not playing right now due to an oblique injury, I'm still gonna route, (root?) for my team. Miracles still do happen and coining a line from "Angels in the Outfield", I will say "it could happen". GO BRAVES!!

Teapots from Scotland

If you know me very well, you know I love to drink hot tea and have a small collection of tea paraphernalia. I wanted to post a few pictures that my hubby and daughter took while they were in Scotland of teapots that they found in one shop. I think they are too cute!! I especially like the toaster. Let me know what you think!!

Boxes, Boxes Everywhere!!

Well, we FINALLY have an official closing date on our new house!! I know it's been a while since I posted that we bought a home and are waiting for the building completion. But, it is still a work in progress. This is the first time we have built and so we have had nothing with which to compare this timetable. They have given us three closing dates in the last month but hubby met with the contractor today and he says September 24th is the final date. YEAH!! We are ready to move. I have, on occasion, questioned in my mind why this move has been drawn out but then I remember that God has a perfect plan for everything. He knows what is best for us and His timing is always right!! One good thing about having the moving delayed is that we won't be moving in extremely hot weather; for that we are all grateful. So we are officially starting the packing and if you come to visit you may just have to eat on a paper plate!!

Did You Know???

Boy, I feel as if I am learning as much, if not more, than my children right now. I am really enjoying "school" this year ;)
Anyway, I love studying about word origins - so here's one for you: Did you know that the word "possessive" comes from the Latin word "posse"? You know what a posse is, a group of people with some type of authority. The Latin word "posse" means "to be able", "to exert force or power". So, in relation to the word "possess", exerting force or power over something else. We're talking about "possessive" nouns, which would be the things that control the noun. Makes sense to me -

Entropy

Right now in Science we're doing a general overview of science and what a scientist uses to make hypotheses, theories and laws. We're also talking about faith and scripture in relation to science. We recently were learning the Laws of Thermodynamics and one aspect of that being the Law of Entropy. The Law of Entropy states that when something is left to itself, it will break down or degenerate. I find this fascinating in light of God and His gift of redemption to mankind. Isn't it interesting that science cannot refute what God ordained from the beginning? Without Him, when we are left to our own ways and our own selves, everything falls apart. In fact, without Him, we will die. The scripture says, "the soul that sins, it shall die." I am so thankful that God provided a way for us to live eternally, that way being Jesus Christ; and even though our bodies are getting older and are in a state of degradation (the natural response), our souls will live on.

Happy Birthday BLOGGER and Welcome to Debbie

Hey, today is BLOGGER's 8th birthday. Wow, that's pretty neat considering I didn't know what a blog was until about 6 months ago. The first time I heard about a "blog" my uncle mentioned it to me and told me to check his out. I was like, "uh, well, what's a blog?" Anyway, I'm a little slow in the technology spectrum but it is sure fun.
Also, I would like to welcome a brand new blogger to our sphere: Debbie Parker, and her blog is The Princess Blog. She is a great friend and she and her husband are very giving people and serve at our church.

Well that's about all for this time -
Have a great weekend!!

Learning is Fun

One of the great things I love about homeschooling is getting to sometimes see the actual thought process that takes place in my kids brains when they are learning about something. I also love the fact that we all get to be involved in each other's learning experiences. And sometimes it's easy to get our modern history mixed up with our ancient history.

We are learning in U.S. History about the early explorers, etc... and yesterday we were talking about Magellan and Balboa and where they were from. The question came up, what were these guys first names? When I asked one of them specifically what Balboa's first name was, they replied, "Rocky". Both Italians but definitely different centuries. As you can imagine, we all had a great laugh.

ESL

I think I may have mentioned before that I teach an ESL (English as a Second Language) class on Tuesday afternoons. I also teach Spanish to adults and have been doing that for several years. Initially, teaching the ESL class seemed as if it was going to be difficult for me. I guess what I mean is that when I was asked to do it, I originally did not feel great about it and doubted that I would be able to do it well and enjoy it at the same time. Well, I'm still not sure I do a good job at it but I absolutely love it!! This group of people have become some of the dearest people in my life. I have 3 Korean students; a Korean couple and an elderly gentleman. I also have a Chinese gal, her name is Mimi and she is precious. And I also have 4 Hispanic people; 3 ladies and one man, all from Mexico. Today we played some games that I had put together for them and then did some exercises out of the book we are using and then just did some basic conversation. We are learning so much about each other and I am just so thrilled at how everyone is so eager to learn and so patient. It is definitely the highlight of my week and I am so thankful for the opportunity.
I want to interject here that I am so humbled at how the Lord has so graciously provided for me over these past few years. I learned Spanish in high school and college and by living in South America and also got my degree in Cross Cultural Communications. I have prayed for years that the Lord would provide outlets for me to use the skills He has given to me. It is so neat to see these things come to fruition. I feel so very blessed!!
Learning about other cultures; communicating and sharing with people of other nations is such an incredible thing. It just shows how vast our God is and how incredibly creative He is.

Missing the Boat

The story you are about to read is true, the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

My husband has a good friend that works for the same investment firm that he does. We'll call this friend "Fred" in honor of Lucy and Ricky's good friend, Fred Mertz. Anyway, about 2 weeks ago, Fred and his family went on an Alaskan cruise, courtesy of a contest he won through their firm. (The same firm that allowed my hubby and daughter to go to Scotland.) Anyway, they're on the cruise and one of the ports of call is Juneau. In Juneau, Fred decides he wants to go fishing for one of his day trips, since he is such an avid sportsman. He goes fishing with a guy and knows he has to be back at the boat at a certain time. Anyway, the guy that takes him fishing, gets kind of turned around and disoriented in his directions motoring Fred back to the cruise ship and they end up getting lost. Fred realizes he doesn't have long before the ship takes off, so he calls (yes, his mobile phone actually worked!) the firm's travel agent and asks for help. They contact the ship and the captain of the cruise liner tells Fred he basically has three choices. He can:
1. pay $10,000 per minute for the ship to wait on him (no joke),
2. catch a plane and meet up with the ship at the next port of call or
3. catch up with the ship while it is still in the bay and be hoisted up on a rope.

Can you guess which option he took? He did, in fact, catch up with the ship in their little bass boat and was hoisted up on a rope to get back on board. He only had a specific time period in which to do this because the ship was heading out from the docking area and would only be in the inlet a certain amount of time before it reached open waters. As it was, he said that hundreds of people were leaning over the edges of the ship and snapping pictures of him as he was hoisted up. My husband asked Fred recently if he had any pictures and he said he hasn't been able to find anyone that took the pictures. His wife was in the stateroom, pretty upset about what had happened and was not in the mood to snap pictures.

It is reminiscent of a crazy scene from I Love Lucy where Lucy missed the boat that is taking Ricky, Fred and Ethel to Europe. She gets her dress caught on a passing bike while walking on the pier to get on board. So she has to rent a helicopter which takes her out to the ship and delivers her safely on board.

It just goes to show you that the old saying "there is nothing new under the sun", is usually pretty true.

Gearing Up!!

Wow, where has the week gone? It seems I just posted and yet almost a week has passed.

Well, I got my family back from Scotland and will be posting some pics for you later. Waiting for my daughter to either send me some from her laptop to my computer or burn them to a dvd so I can share them. Amazing, just 5 years ago, this kind of technology was almost unheard of.

Anyway, we are gearing up to start school a week from this Monday. We are a homeschooling family and so things work a bit different for us, but my kids are ready to get back to the books. So this week I have been busy searching for book bargains between Ebay and Half.com and other sources. I just about have everything purchased and am feeling really good about the money I have saved. Some of the books are used but that is okay. And I have also been busy selling some of our last years books, since other people are looking for deals like me. I love working on Ebay and have done alot of trading on there over the last several years, but it does take time. Again, five years ago, who would have thought that you could sell something at an online auction?!

Something else to mention: the horrible Georgia heat we have been experiencing of late. It has been a scorcher, over 100 for the last 4 days. Thank the Lord for A/C!

The Braves, well, all in all they've done pretty good this week. Last night's game against the Phillies was heartbreaking. They should've won it, but one mistake cost them. They did great against the Mets and I hope they can pull off a win tonight. I'm not sure about Cormier. He hasn't done that great in recent outings. But they're still my team and I will root for them regardless.

Have a great weekend!!

Awesome Day!!

Today was such a great day!!

Church was incredible; God's Spirit was so thick you could definitely feel Him in the place. One person accepted Christ into their life today!! Pastor's sermon was another one that was just so deep and leaves me with so much to ponder. The main point was how to handle the negativity that we all experience in life. The answer: to realize God's incredible love and passion for each of us.

Our pastor and wife are celebrating their ninth year at COTN. They are incredible people, mainly because of their humility and servants hearts. I could not say enough about how much their lives bless me and my family. It is refreshing to see a man of God that is not trying to impress others but just living his life to bring honor to his Lord.

A good friend of mine blessed me with a belated birthday gift, a beautiful bird feeder. I was so not expecting that. Sometimes, those are the best kinds of gifts to get. I am thankful for thoughtful and faithful friends.

Tomorrow my family returns from Scotland, for that I am grateful. I know they have had a great time but I am ready for them to return.

And, lastly, to top off this great day, the Braves won their game against the Rockies in the 10th. Thanks to a double by Francoeur and a game winning hit by Escobar. GO BRAVES!!

Fill 'Er Up?

Went to a little town outside of Athens, GA today to pick up one of our vehicles that was being repaired. The town was Statham, GA. Pulled into a gas station and got out to start pumping and a man walked up to me and said "fill 'er up?" At first, I thought he was kidding. I haven't seen a full-service gas station since, well, I don't know when, probably the 70's (okay, so I'm a city girl). I looked at him and said, "are you kidding?" He looked at me and said, "you aren't from around here, are you?" I could not believe it, but he actually pumped our gas for us. It's been a long time. What a pleasant reminder of days gone by. And to the man at the Pure station in Statham I say, "thanks so much".

Mini-Vacation

Had a great time with my two kids and one kid's friend for the last couple of days. We went to "Hot"lanta and hung out for a short trip. Went to the new World of Coca-Cola. This is an awesome place, everyone needs to see it. It really is a very nostalgic but very modern look at the world's favorite drink. My favorite part was tasting all of the different drinks that Coke makes from all over the world. Some were kind of awful and some were really good. Also went to see the Braves play. Had great seats right behind Jeff Francoeur. He said "hi" to us and seems like a really nice guy. We beat the pants off of Houston and it was also Mark Teixeira's first game, so it was pretty cool. I just love being in the ballpark to watch them play. There's something about being there and watching the game that is just so fun! Then the next day we went to Six Flags White Water. If I'm going to do an amusement park in the summer, it's got to have water. Great place to ride really good rides and also get wet all at the same time. We had a blast there. All in all, a great trip (except for the traffic in Marietta at around 5 pm).

Crawford Clan

Clan Crest Crawford - courtesy of www.scotclans.com

So part of the family is in Scotland this week and so I thought it would be neat to post the Crawford Clan crest in honor of that. Also a picture of the Crawford tartan. It's neat to read up on the different clans and the history. Notice on the crest the cross between the antlers. I should've known there'd be some kind of wildlife in the crest; I thought it might be a duck!! (For those of you that know my hubby is an avid hunter.)
Just talked to the family and they can see Edinburgh Castle from their hotel. Wow!!

The meaning of the words on the crest are: "I will give you safety by strength."

Big, Fat Piece of Steak to Chew On

Today's church service was awesome! Our pastor preached on understanding the "fear of the Lord". It was so powerful. There are so many scriptures referring to the fear of the Lord, but do we really know what it actually means? He went into alot of the scriptural references and basically came up with the definition of the fear of the Lord being: "To respect with the audacity to obey". Respect carries the idea of willingness to do something even when we disagree. Our children show respect when they obey us even when they may not agree with us. Has God not done enough for us to earn our respect? We looked at some men in the Bible that feared and respected God despite their circumstances. Noah - respected God enough to obey despite the abuse and humiliation of his neighbors. Abraham - had the nerve to kill his only son in order to obey God. Isaiah - God asked him to preach to the people naked. Ezekiel - God asked him to lay on his side for one year to demonstrate the burden of sin caused by Israel. Hosea - God asked him to marry a prostitute. They all obeyed God and He showed Himself mighty to each of them. Do I have the nerve to obey God? Because if I don't obey Him, there will be consequences to my disobedience, just as there were for the children of Israel. Everytime I disobey God I am making a statement to Him that I do not fear Him. Disobedience really shows just what kind of regard we have for God. Alot of meat to chew on there. I pray that God would continue to soften my heart to the point of truly fearing Him.

I Love Bargains!!

I'm an avowed bargain-hunter and am always looking for ways to save $$. Dave Ramsey would be proud. Anyway, I found a great site that lists new deals on a daily basis that are available on-line and sometimes in a particular store, etc... It's called Dealcatcher and you can find alot of techno kind of stuff for computers, Ipods, digital cameras, video games, plus food and restaurant coupons, clothing, furniture, etc.. I visit this site daily and have found several worthy offerings. Enjoy!!

One of the Greatest Lucy Moments

Lucy has ruined William Holden's lunch at a popular restaurant and so now needs to disguise herself when he comes to visit Ricky at the apartment. Watch what happens. This is truly great humor!!

More Birthday Merriment

Well, it's not my birthday anymore but we're still celebrating at our house. Actually our oldest daughter turned 21 today. Wow, I really can't believe that, but it is true. 21 years ago right at this moment, she was being a "real pain" to me. Ha! I am so thankful for her, though; she is a blessing to all of our family and I know that God has great things in store for her future. We celebrated at her favorite restaurant, Olive Garden, today after church. She is also going to Scotland next week with my husband on a trip that she has been looking forward to for months. God is gracious to give us children; He says in His Word that children are a gift from Him. I feel very blessed to have been lavished with the gift of three precious children.

Kidnapped

Well, today I turned the BIG 5 - 0!! It is really hard to believe that I am a half a century young, or 2 score and 10 years or 25 times 2 or however you might want to say it. I can't believe that I'm 50 because I feel as if I just turned 30 but that's okay. I don't mind celebrating birthdays because the alternative is not so good!! Today I was blessed to be "kidnapped" by two of my dear friends whom I have been celebrating birthdays with for about 10 years. They met me this morning at a little cafe in our town and told me that they had the whole day planned for me. We drove to another little quaint town and did some antique shopping, ate lunch and did some more shopping. Then went and got a frozen coffee at another cute shop and did some more talking and then went to have cake and ice cream at some more friends houses. To top it all off, I got to ride home in a convertible. I felt very special and enjoyed it immensely and if I had known that turning 50 was going to be this fun, I would've done it sooner!! It has been an awesome day and I feel so blessed to have such good friends to share a special day with.
